The way you dress must send the right message to colleagues, bosses and customers or clients who might be visiting your office. Dressing in winter is really no different then dressing for the warmer days of the year. It should be appropriate without it being to loud in color, or to short for style. Winter time does bring on some different challenges if you are in a colder climate, but that doesn’t mean you have to look shabby and messy.
No matter what you wear it should be appropriate for the business office and should not be threadbare and full of wrinkles. Fashion changes each season and depending on what part of the country you live in will depend of how many layers you might need to wear. For the Northern states people will need to dress warmer which might mean dressing in layers. Each layer should match, and once you have taken the outer layer off, the next layer should at least compliment your shoes or boots that you are wearing. If possible bring a pair of nice shoes with you for work instead of wearing boots all day. Boots can be in fashion in some offices but in most professional office buildings a pair of nice heels will go better with your outfits.
For the warmer states you will find that your color range will change a little less then in the Northern states. Southern states seem to keep the lighter, warm colors going longer into the year. By the holidays the festive colors come out and layering with light jackets might be necessary. You should still dress appropriately with well ironed, and neat clean lines to your style for a professional office.
It is very important to choose clothes that fit your style and fit your body comfortably. If you don’t like what you are wearing, it will most likely show up in your attitude during the day. Layer you clothes to keep you warm and dry on the damp cold days of winter. It is always easier to take a layer off when you warm up, then to borrow something from a coworker that doesn’t match or fit well. Plan your day out the night before so you know what you are wearing and how to change the outer layer if an unexpected storm is on the rise. Add some stylish accessories to brighten up the darker winter clothes that most people tend to wear in the winter months. Pleasing stylish accessories will perk up your feelings and make your outfit complete, to give you a professional look.
